The Pune Rural Police received a piece of information about human organs being burnt in the crematorium of Tawshi village in Indapur taluka while a large amount of blood was lying on the side. The Police uncovered a murder case from the partially burnt wood in the crematorium and have arrested two accused for allegedly murdering his 74-year-old maternal uncle.
The accused have been identified as Dadasaheb Maruti Harihar (age 30) and his friend Vishal Sadashiv Khilare (age 23, both residents of Gokhali, Taluka Phaltan, District Satara). The deceased has been identified as Haribhau Dhuraji Jagtap (age 74, resident of Gangakhed, Parbhani).
As per the information given by Superintendent of Pune Rural Police Pankaj Deshmukh, on November 16, the Police Patil of Tavshi village informed the local police station about a corpse being burnt in the village crematorium in Indapur taluka while a large amount of blood was seen near on the ground. Accordingly, police officer Rajkumar Dunge of the Walchandnagar Police Station immediately rushed to the spot along with his team. The police team witnessed completely burnt wood and blood at the crematorium site and a large amount of burned wood confused the police.
Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Biradar, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dr Sudarshan Rathod ordered the team from Walchandnagar Police Station and the Local Crime Branch to investigate the matter. Accordingly, the police initiated an investigation in Indapur, Malshiras, and Phaltan taluka to find the warehouse from where the wood was purchased. While investigating, it was revealed that the wood was purchased from a warehouse in Gunware Village in Phaltan taluka and transported to Pune by the accused, Dadasaheb Harihar and his friend Vishal Khilare.
Accordingly, the police and further interrogation revealed that Haribhau Jagtap used to work as a matchmaker. Where he met Dadasaheb Harihar’s wife and allegedly had wrong intentions towards Harihar’s wife. Harihar learnt about Jagtap’s approach towards his wife and conspired to kill him.
The accused, along with the deceased, travelled to a pilgrimage at Satoba in Takewadi in Maan Taluka from Gangakhed. While at midnight, the accused stopped the car near Tavshi village and assaulted the deceased on the head with a wooden stick, killing him on the spot. Later, in order to destroy the evidence, the accused burnt the body in the crematorium. The police informed Sachin Haribhau Jagtap (age 46, resident of Kolhapur), the son of the deceased, and registered a complaint.
Meanwhile, there was no complete certainty as to what exactly happened in the Tavshi crematorium in this incident, and the police had no evidence. However, the Walchandnagar Police and the Local Crime Branch got suspicious of the crematorium activity and revealed the murder. They arrested the accused using the burnt wood and the blood found in the crematorium as the lead. The police successfully investigated the murder and arrested both the accused involved in the murder.
The successful investigation of the murder was carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Rajkumar Dunage, Assistant Police Inspector Kuldeep Sankpal, as well as Assistant Faujdar Balasaheb Karande, Shailesh Swami, Police Havaldar Gulabrao Patil, Ganesh Katkar, Ajit Thorat, Swapnil Ahivale, Ajay Ghule, Nilesh Shinde, Vikramsinh Jadhav, Police Official Abhijit Kalaskar, under the guidance of Superintendent of Pune Rural Police Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Biradar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dr. Sudarshan Rathod and Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar.
