The Shirur police, along with the local crime branch, arrested an interstate gang involved in ATM thefts in Haryana and Rajasthan. The police team arrested the gang and foiled their attempt to loot an ATM in Shirur Taluka. The police seized a container and other equipment required for thefts and other valuables totalling Rs 15 lakh, 17 thousand, and 400. The officials of the Shirur Police Station of the Pune Rural Police arrested three accused, while two fled the scene, taking advantage of the dark.
According to the police, the local crime branch of the Pune Rural Police received information that a gang involved in ATM thefts in Haryana and Rajasthan had entered Pune. Accordingly, the crime branch team informed the intelligence bureau. The intelligence team started getting information about the gang coming from Haryana and Rajasthan state, and further investigations revealed that the gang travelled in a container bearing registration number RJ-52-GA-7916 to steal ATM centres.
Avinash Shilimkar, the police inspector of the local crime branch, received information that the gang has halted at Haryana Mewati Dhaba in the limits of Sardwadi village on the Pune-Nagar highway. Based on the information, the local crime branch team, with the help of police inspector Sandesh Kenjale and staff of Shirur police station, conducted a raid on the dhaba on November 04 at around 10 pm and detained three accused along with the container. However, two accomplices successfully escaped the scene.
The arrested accused have been identified as Qutubuddin Akhtar Hussain (age 31 of Somka, Pahri district, Bharatpur, Rajasthan), Yasin Haroon Khan (age 32 of Gundeta, Pahun, Nuh, Haryana), and Rahul Rashid Khan (age 32 of Falendi, Pahun, Nuh, Haryana). The absconding accused has been identified as Naushad alias Nepali (full name not known) and Lehki (full name not known) both (Residents of Ghasaida Gandhigram, Nuh, Haryana).
The police have seized a container bearing registration number RJ-52-GA-7916, a gas cutter, a gas tank, a cutter, a guard, a spray bottle, a rope, and materials worth Rs 15,17,400 required for cutting the ATM machine from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered under Section 310(4) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at the Shirur police station. The local crime branch team and the investigation team of Shirur police station are investigating the accused on various fronts related to the crime. The arrested accused were produced before the court and granted police custody till November 7. Further investigation is being carried out by Shirur Police Station.
