A jolting incident has come to light from the Lohegaon area of Pune where a married woman died by suicide by hanging herself due to harassment by her in-laws as failed to bring dowry money. The incident took place on November 8 at Vitthal Niwas in Santnagar, Lohegaon. The name of the victim has been identified as Nayana Prakash Maghade (age 26, resident Vitthal Niwas, Santnagar, Lohgaon).

Jai Kharat (age-28, resident of Nimbgaon Jali, Sangamner, District Ahmednagar), the brother of the deceased, has lodged a complaint at the Vimantal police station in this regard. Based on that, the police have registered a case against Prakash Maghade (age-32) for abetment to suicide.

According to the police, the complainant’s sister Naina was married to Prakash Maghade in 2020. After the marriage, Prakash used to beat her for not bringing money as well as doubt her character. The accused allegedly tortured Nayana physically and mentally and threatened her at regular intervals, asking her to leave the house. Meanwhile, tired of the in-laws’ constant harassment, the Naina died by suicide by hanging herself from the bedroom ceiling fan on Friday. A case has been registered, and Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Shinde is investigating the case.
