Pune: The Khadak police have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally challanged minor girl. The shocking incident took place in Ghorpade Peth area of ​​Pune. Acting on the complaint filed by the victim’s grandmother the police has arrested the accused Sham Gyanoba Hatagale (age 50, resident of Ghorpade Peth).

According to the police, the complainant is an elderly woman and her granddaughter is 16 years old who is suffering from mental illness. On June 30 (Monday) in the afternoon, the accused Hatagale approached the girl was playing in front of her house. He lured the girl and took her to a public toilet in the vicinity where he threatened her and allegedly behaved indecently with her. After the girl returned home horrified by the incident and told her grandmother about the entire incident. The grandmother immediately rushed to Khadak police station and filed a complaint.

Based on this complaint, the police has registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and arrested him on Tuesday. Assistant Police Inspector Jadhav is investigating the case. The police have taken serious note of the incident and have initiated legal action to protect the victim girl. The police have appealed that citizens should also be vigilant for the safety of such sensitive sections of the society.
